About Us

A World of Old is run by Tom and Mark who became partners in 2002 - Tom has been selling pine for some 15 years and Mark's background is in the antiques trade. He is also a professional restorer and polisher. The business is based just outside the village of Wing, (Bedfordshire) on the A418 between Leighton Buzzard and Aylesbury.

Inside is a vast choice of finished pieces and you will clearly see how our recycling works. Half the furniture is original and often unique, sourced mainly in England but the occasional French marble washstand or Dutch dresser can be seen! All have been carefully restored then waxed, oiled or for the latest look, painted and distressed using Farrow & Ball traditional colours.

Despite such choice there can still be a problem with sizes! This is when our custom-made (bespoke furniture) service takes over. Simply request a quote and we can make any piece of furniture to your measurements using all reclaimed timber! The showroom also has a display of our hand built reclaimed kitchens. These are priced by the foot, just choose your combination of cabinets, drawers and doors and we will make to order in about 6 weeks. Pine worktops are extra or we can give you details of local suppliers or hardwoods or granite.

Our stripping service is constantly busy as there are few places that offer such a comprehensive range of services. We offer a caustic dip for painted pine which is quick, cheaper and achieves a better result than doing-it-yourself. For hardwoods such as oak we have a hand-stripping system using a biodegradable chemical. This scrubs the item clean and does not penetrate the timber thereby keeping the grain intact. This method will also remove old oil based varnishes and even those modern 2-pack factory finishes! Your doors and furniture are then ready for refinishing and that can also be done here if you prefer, at an additional cost.
